Are you thinking about studying Economic Sciences in Slovakia? Studying economics brings wide range of advantages since it has a high earning potential, great career prospects and it gains international perspective across the globe. Studying economics enables people to understand people, businesses, markets and governments, and therefore better respond to the threats and opportunities that emerge when things change. The whole graduate study program is typically divided into two stages, the bachelor study program and the master study program, which takest 5 years to complete.
There are 11 universities around the Slovakia in which you can study economics, to be more specific you can choose from 9 Slovak cities.
1. Bratislava
In capital of Slovakia, there are 3 universities where you can study Economic Sciences:
1. Comenius university in Bratislava
Comenius university (UK) with its 13 faculties is one of the biggest universities in Slovakia. Faculty of Management offers study program Economy and Management, which is accredited in English language. This study program is a generally focused on university education in the field of economics, business management and business administration. Application deadlines are usually in the March.
2. Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava
The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), belongs to the largest and most significant universities of technology in the Slovakia. It has received numerous high rankings and awards for its quality of research and teaching. University offers education mainly in technical, technological, technical-economic, technical-information and technical-artistic fields of study. Institute of Management offers the following study programs taught in English - Investment Planning in Industrial Enterprise and Spatial Planning at bachelor´s degree and Investment Planning in Industrial Enterprise at master´s degree.
3. University of Economics in Bratislava
University of Economics in Bratislava (EUBA) is the oldest university of economics in the Slovakia. EUBA currently represents the biggest university in Slovakia which provides complex and integral education in economic and management study programmes at all levels of study. If you want to study economics, you can choose from different faculties depending on what specialization you are looking for.
2. Komárno - J. Selye University
J. Selye University aims to educate young intellectuals who can become the pillars of our national community and whose language skills will enable them to succeed at home and abroad. The Faculty of Economics and Informatics at the J. Selye University (FEI JSU) is the only faculty in Slovakia where the members of the Hungarian ethnic minority can study and obtain a university degree in business and IT in their mother tongue. Study programs are offered in Slovak and Hungarian language. There are several study programs which you can choose to study such as Corporate Economics and Management, Commerce and Marketing, Rural Development at bachelor degree and Business Economics and Management and Applied Informatics at master´s degree.
3. Nitra - Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA)
SUA is one of the top Slovak universities in the field of international relations and is the right choice for all those who want to gain experience abroad as part of their studies. Faculty of European Studies and Regional Developmentis the youngest Faculty of the SUA in Nitra. The study programmes provided focus on preparing their graduates especially for work in public administration, public entities, project units and local government authorities both in Slovakia and abroad. There is one study program taught in English both at bachelor and master degree: Regional Development and Policies of the EU.
4. Trenčín - Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín
The University provides education in a wide range of disciplines, such as engineering, technology, management, health care and political science at all three levels of higher education (bachelor, master and doctoral level), both in full-time and part-time forms. Faculty of Social and Economic Relations provides several study programs at bachelor and master degree such as Human Resources and personeel management, Tourism management, Management and Economics of Public Administration. 5. Banská Bystrica - University of Matej Bel in Banská Bystrica (UMB)
University of Matej Bel offers a classic range of university education opportunities at all three levels and forms of studies in the areas of education, social issues, economy, law, politics, humanities and natural sciences, in the fields of international relations, economic specializations and mathematics. Faculty of Economics provides study programmes taught in English: Business Economy and Management at bachelor degree and Finance, Banking and Investments at master degree.
6. Žilina - University of Žilina (UNIZA)
University of Zilina with its 7 faculties belongs to one of the leading educational and scientific institutions in Slovakia. Faculty of Operations and Economics focuses on technologies and services in communications. It offers several study programs taught in English language such as Economics and Management of Enterprise both in bachelor and master degree and Electronic Business and Management and Financial Management at master degree. Apart from these, there are other study programs taught in Slovak language such as Road Transport, Railway Transport, Air Transport etc.
7. Ružomberok - Catholic University in Ružomberok
The Catholic University in Ružomberok consists of 4 faculties. Regarding Economics Sciences, the Faculty of Education within its Department of Management provides the study program Management at the Bachelor's degree and Economics and Business at the master degree which are held in Slovak language.
8. Košice - Technical University in Košice (TUKE)
Technical University in Košice is a public institution offering education in technical, economic, and artistic fields for both domestic and international students in Slovak and English. TUKE consists of 9 faculties (eight in Košice and one in Prešov). Economics Sciences are taught at the Faculty of Economics. There are accredited 2 study programs both at bachelor and master degree which are held both in English and Slovak language: Finance, Banking and Investment and Economy and Management of Public Administration.
9. Prešov - University of Prešov
The education is provided by 8 faculties and by several university centres. Faculty of Management and Business is currently the only faculty of an economic and business type offering higher education study in the Prešov Region. It offers study programs taught both in English and Slovak language. At bachelor degree there are 3 study programs: Management, Business Management and Marketing, Tourism, Hotel and Spa Industry. At master degree there is one study program - Management.

The majority of universities offer study programs in English; however, some universities provide programs only in Slovak. Many universities also offer Slovak language courses for international students who wish to study in Slovak.
International students wishing to study temporarily economics in Slovakia have a wide range of possibilities to choose from – one-semester or full-year study stays within the framework of various European and non-European mobility programmes, specially created study-abroad programmes, cooperation arrangements between university networks, summer schools and so on.
